Is that a photograph or a painting?

I moved to New Orleans post Katrina to improve tourism to the area. I was there exploring the businesses there and surveying them on the issues that they were having in driving their businesses. I was particularly interested in things that made the French Quarter unique and could bring back the "Old Quarter". I surveyed a business owner and artist named Craig Tracy. He is an artist who brings two mediums together bodypainting and photography. Tracy has been painting since the age of sixteen and taking body painting seriously since 2002 and opened his gallery 2006.  Each image is a photograph is a model and backdrop with completely painted by the artist. The illusionist style that the artist uses is even more impressive because he uses little-to-no Photoshop in his images. The average time to paint the body is a full day and preprinting the backdrop is typical.

The artist’s favorite piece is speed, which I have posted.

"It is my intent to continue to explore and expand the perceptions and boundaries of this most ancient, alluring, and contemporary art form."

  1. This work is so unique. Craig Tracy brings the live figure and precise, detailed illustration together and then captures them in a beautiful photograph! New Orleans is the perfect venue for this work....it is mysterious and really far from mainstream...the city is historic and dramatic. They are meant for each other.
