Bob Ross: The Joy of Painting (Do any of you remember this TV show)

I have really enjoyed this class this summer I will be honest and say that this has been the best class I have taken so far here at SCAD. My last blog will be on Bob Ross. Bob Ross was the host of The Joy of Painting, a weekly T.V series that on PBS in the United States, Canada and Europe. This T.V show is also another reason I got into art. The series ran from January 11, 1983, to May 17, 1994. Bob Ross would paint seens from nature and his smooth voice would always hypnotize me, placing me into a trance, as a young child I would often find myself lost into his work as he paint due to the sound of his voice. I liked Bob Ross because he just did not paint nature, but he made the viewer care about nature. Do any of you remeber this T.V show? Attached is a video of Bob Ross painting one of his countless painting dealing with nature.

  1. I loved watching Mr Ross on PBS. My mom would have us sit down and watch to expose us to the different career opportunities that exist. Of course to me, he was more amazing than the discovery channel and animals. His eye for color and paint application is amazing.

  2. Haha...it's a very interesting reminder. When I married, I found many VHS videos without any labels in my husband's closet. He recorded more than 50 hours of Mr. Ross's painting. He later on painted a very nice scenery on canvas using the learned techniques.

  3. I will never forget this show. I use to watch it at my grandmother's house and think he was the most creative man alive. (lol). I learned the concept of painting trees and mountains from him. #goodstuff.
