Field Trip

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this exhibition but I was pleasantly surprised. I liked how Johnson had so much variety in his work; using all different types of media. Even though he used all this different media, I still think he was able to get his message across and what the exhibition was about; “Message to Our Folks”.
I really enjoyed his photographs with the smoke. They were mysterious, and very powerful. He used the silver printing process to get the images, which as far as I could tell was a long, and somewhat hard process. To me, that shows how dedicated and interested is in his work and the whole process.
I also really enjoyed his mirror pieces. With all the objects he incorporated it you could really get a feel of what his childhood was like. The way all those smaller pieces were all put together made it a lot more dynamic and visually interesting than having just a straight mirror. The only piece that I really didn’t care for was the rug with the balls on it, but overall the exhibition was great.

  1. LOL at the "rug with the balls on it". I too liked the mirror displays. The mirror with "RUN" sprayed on it was very powerful to me, the statement beside it read: "Run is the most powerful word in the English language, when you say it there is so much force behind it"---the is a lot of power when you say RUN (run for president, run for your life, run a business, run away, etc.)
