Just Like Being There

As an Illustrator, I've always had a huge love of movie and band posters. In recent history, though, hand drawn artistic posters have become almost a thing of the past since its much cheaper for studios to have a photographer take a picture and then edit it on the computer. It's been refreshing for me to find that Netflix actually has a recent documentary about gig and movie posters on their "watch instantly list" called Just Like Being There. If you're into this sort of artwork I'd really encourage you to check it out if you have Netflix. They do take you thru a bunch of the steps in screen-printing and they show off some amazing artwork while doing it.

Blurb from the website:

"In the gig poster community, artists such as Daniel Danger and Jay Ryan prove that creating this artwork is a way of life, more then just a career. These artists are at the forefront of an expansion of the gig poster genre. MONDO's reinvigoration of "the film poster as an art form," and Gallery 1988's theme based exhibits are only two ways in which this artwork is reaching the greater public. "
