Sam Spratt SCAD 2010 Illustration Graduate

Sam Spratt is 24 years old and lives in New York. He graduated from SCAD in 2010 with a BFA in Illustration. His career has really taken off since and he is internationally known, bringing his art to the world of tech-journalism.  He is a classically trained oil painter and has translated that talent to the digital world.    His amazing work can been viewed on his website www.samspratt.com. I was so impressed with his detailed illustrations...and how he has applied the traditional method in his own creative way to achieve commercial success.  Angry Birds! who knew ?? I think he could inspire us all.

  1. This post was very inspiring for me. Not only did your artist do terrific work but he graduated from this school as well. All of this work is so realistic it looks more like photography. Your post made me feel as if I work hard at this school then it could lead me to greatness.Thank you very much for your post.

  2. Awesome. His attention to detail is extraordinary. The fact that he is a SCAD graduation just made me feel honored to even walk the same halls as he did. Kudos to him and his work.

  3. Sam's texture work is remarkable. His decision to integrate his oil painting background & training into the digital platform application makes him quite a bit prepared for a long career; certainly an artist who knows his medium. I'd be interested to see his process: how his concepts first take form on the canvas, the adjustments he makes and then how he polishes everything up...physically or digitally. Great find, Linda.

  4. His work has been featured in Pixar movies. I saw his work couple years ago. Check this link. http://rebloggy.com/post/painting-pixar-red-head-sketch-brave-ginger-sam-spratt-tutorial-merida/25598080788.
The red hair - main character of the movie Brave is one of his works. In one interview he said that after graduating from SCAD, it was hard for him to put his ego (that gained by his professors and his good works at SCAD) aside and start accepting that he needs to change his work to match the requirements. But he did what he needed to and succeeded.
